Tras la polémica que desató la cancelación del artista venezolano Paul Gillman y su banda del Festival Rock al Parque, por su afinidad con el gobierno de Nicolás Maduró, Juliana Restrepo, directora de Idartes, aclaró que dicha decisión se dio únicamente por temas de orden público. Así se justificó la determinación.
La controversia inició una vez se conoció que Gillman hacía parte de la nómina de artistas de este festival. Rockeros en Colombia y venezolanos radicados en el país levantaron su voz de protesta a través de las redes sociales, en una campaña que generó resultados con la cancelación del concierto.
Aunque algunos apoyaban la salida de Gillman del cartel, para otros la decisión va en contra de la libertad de expresión, recordando que a lo largo de la historia del festival, varios son los artistas que participaron siendo claros simpatizantes de la izquierda en América Latina, como Calle 13 y Manu Chao.
De acuerdo con Juliana Restrepo, en los últimos días se creó una campaña de desprestigio contra la participación del artista en Rock al Parque, lo cual pone en riesgo el buen funcionamiento del festival y la seguridad de quienes participan en él, de los artistas y del público asistente.
“La curaduría de los Festivales al Parque obedece a criterios puramente artísticos. Los Festivales al Parque son apolíticos y el Idartes, como entidad organizadora, respeta las posiciones de los artistas invitados”, agregó.
La directora concluyó que admiraba la trayectoria del músico y que respetaba su aporte dal rock y al metal latinoamericano.
