Ivanov Castellanos es representante de la empresa turística Café Tío Conejo. Ayer fue de los primeros en participar en el taller sobre iniciación a la observación a las aves que se realizó en el Jardín Botánico de la Universidad de Caldas, organizado dentro del Sexto Congreso de Aviturismo.
El interés de Ivanov es crear un programa de avistamiento e integrarlo al turismo natural que adelantan desde hace cinco años en su finca.
Según sus cuentas, por año recibe unos 800 turistas, principalmente extranjeros, negocios que les representa cerca del 35% del ingreso de la finca.
"Ahora, además de enseñarles sobre producción de café, queremos fortalecer el avistamiento y construir senderos, debido a que tenemos unas 110 especies observadas en las fincas", sostuvo.
Un concepto similar tiene Juan Manuel Arango, representante de la finca Toriles. "Estamos en el plan de montar un hotel de avistamiento de aves cerca de Tres Puertas. Por eso vine a conocer, ya que donde estamos los observadores de aves han identificado una gran diversidad. Es el futuro del turismo en Caldas".
Jorge Eduardo Botero, miembro de la Asociación Caldense de Ornitología, coincidió con los empresarios sobre el dinamismo que empieza a tener este turismo. Sin embargo, durante el taller, les recordó a los asistentes la importancia de fomentar la protección ambiental y la conservación de las especies. "No es posible que Caldas sea de las regiones del mundo con más especies de aves y la gente no las conozca", dijo.
Los estudios indican que en el mundo hay unas 10 mil 500 especies de aves, y de ellas Colombia tiene 1.921, el 18,3%.
De esa riqueza nacional, Caldas tiene 923 especies, según el censo del 2010, el 48% de las aves del país.
De acuerdo con Mónica Londoño, directora de la Asociación Hotelera de Colombia (Cotelco) Caldas, esta industria empieza a generar desarrollo económico, pero el llamado es a proteger y conservar.

Hoy habrá un taller de iniciación a la observación de aves en el Recinto del Pensamiento, a partir de las 6:30 a.m. En la Universidad de Caldas habrá talleres y técnicas de grabación a partir de las 7:00 a.m. En el Teatro Los Fundadores se realizará un conversatorio sobre el desarrollo del turismo de naturaleza. Se inicia a las 3:00 p.m. Son abiertos al público.
