Ha sacrificado su vida personal con el propósito de participar en varios procesos. Ha sido víctima del conflicto colombiano pues desaparecieron al padre de su hija. Tomó la decisión de no parir más hijos y se dedica a la defensa de los pueblos indígenas, campesinos, de la gente que lo requiera.
Luz Mery Panche Chocue acompaña a la Asociación de Cabildos de San Vicente del Caguán (Caquetá) en la amazonia colombiana y aunque los Nasa son originarios del Cauca hace más de 80 años llegaron a territorio caqueteño.
Hace aproximadamente 7 años ella está, directamente, con los pueblos indígenas en San Vicente del Caguán. No se define como lideresa porque no ha sido una autoridad tradicional, con cargos en la organización indígena, pero se ha ganado el respeto de las comunidades que la eligen como vocera en diferentes espacios.
Tiene 38 años y es delegada en la Mesa de Concertación Departamental, creada el año pasado, a través de la cual los pueblos indígenas y la asociación de cabildos interactúan con instituciones del Estado. Además es vocera de la Coordinación nacional de los pueblos indígenas de Marcha Patriótica en el sur del país.
Luz Mery se define así misma como defensora de derechos tanto de los indígenas como de los campesinos. Participa en procesos relacionados con el derecho a la vida y la defensa del territorio con diferentes organizaciones sociales tales como las asociaciones de acción comunal en San Vicente del Caguán.
Ha recibido capacitaciones de la Defensoría del Pueblo de Colombia pero fue su padre, que la llevaba a diferentes reuniones y eventos, quien la hizo enamorarse de los pueblos indígenas. De su padre aprendió a luchar por la recuperación de tierras y aunque él no fue un líder tan reconocido dejó huella y la inspiró a luchar por los derechos de su comunidad.
Luz Mery ha ido asumiendo esa responsabilidad y dialogado con diversas comunidades indígenas que las organizaciones nacionales ni quiera saben que existen, se ha acercado a ellas.
“Ha sido una tarea difícil abrirse paso no solo en el espacio indígena sino en las organizaciones campesinas y las demás organizaciones porque yo estoy convencida de que la lucha no es solo de los pueblos indígenas. Me ha tocado abrirme espacio en organizaciones afro y campesinas llamando a la unidad. Realmente muchos dirigentes de las organizaciones de izquierda son muy machistas y ese machismo ha sido una barrera muy fuerte (…) Más en el caso mío, mujer e indígena, pues hay ese imaginario de que los indígenas no son muy inteligentes ni tenemos propuestas”, dice.
En su camino ha encontrado personas que quieren imponerse y eso hace más difícil su labor. Sin embargo, ella afronta estas situaciones con la preparación que ha obtenido, a través del diálogo y argumentado muy bien sus propuestas donde participa.
“Siempre que intervengo en espacios donde me delegan lo hago a nombre de la colectividad, eso me ha permitido tener una representación que merece respeto. Pero tampoco ha sido fácil abrirme espacio en la organización indígena porque he hecho críticas, constructivas y cariñosas, porque veo fallas tales como quedarse en esa relación con el Estado y no acompañar procesos locales que están en partes lejanas del país. Ha sido una falla de la organización nacional dividirse por regiones. Creo que deberíamos analizar el concepto de autonomía del movimiento indígena porque se ha dejado solas a comunidades en territorios donde han llegado empresas multinacionales y han abusado del desconocimiento del derecho a la consulta previa y están generando problemas de convivencia, alterando la armonía”, añade Luz Mery.
Sus posiciones críticas le han generado problemas de seguridad. Ha recibido amenazas por parte de paramilitares a causa de señalamientos de otros compañeros que dicen que ella y otros miembros de su comunidad son de las Farc. Pero ante los desafíos siempre hay una solución: “Lo resolvemos con autoformación. Me gusta leer, me gusta pensar, hablar con los mayores y tengo mis usos y costumbres”, afirma.
“Tuve la oportunidad de estar en los últimos encuentros de la Habana para los Acuerdos de Paz. Ahí noté, de parte de algunos dirigentes, ese rechazo a la vocería nuestra. Pero llamamos a la unidad, a no fraccionar y escuchar que hay otras voces que están hablando de cuestiones que se deben corregir, posiciones políticas y algunos liderazgos que se han lucrado del movimiento indígena y que no benefician a las comunidades.
“Al final aceptaron el capítulo étnico en la Habana, lo pudimos defender porque tenemos metas iguales como el buen vivir pero hay que respetar los pensamientos diferentes si son argumentados y válidos para revitalizar el movimiento indígena. Es complicado abrir espacios al interior nuestro con nuestra justicia propia y autonomía, se corre el riesgo de ser puestos en el cepo por pensar diferente. Corremos el riesgo pero lo hacemos con cariño por mejorar la situación de compañeros en condiciones críticas”, insiste.
Las causas que Luz Mery defiende son variadas. Por supuesto, la principal es continuar la lucha histórica por la existencia de los pueblos indígenas, en condiciones de vida digna, promover sus usos y costumbres.
Ella sueña con darlo todo hasta que termine su paso por la tierra para que su gente se sienta orgullosa de ser indígena pues algunos jóvenes -afectados por otros pensamientos y los medios de comunicación- se avergüenzan de serlo, de hablar su idioma, de pensar como indígena y de su religiosidad. “Es muy triste porque la riqueza espiritual que tenemos podría salvar este planeta. Tenemos que llegar al punto de hacerle frente a todas esas amenazas (…) no podemos terminar aislados, debemos rescatar lo nuestro y dar grandes batallas por los derechos comunes de otros sectores sociales”, agrega.
Luz Mery anhela alcanzar condiciones de vida digna para los indígenas, los campesinos, los afro-descendientes y todos los colombianos. Además está comprometida con la defensa de la Amazonia y promueve una visión no materialista del territorio. Ella y otros miembros de su comunidad han rechazado la presencia de multinacionales en ese territorio frágil e importante. "Colombia no puede seguir apostándole a la explotación minero energética y volver a la época colonial”, insiste.
Ha participado en la Mesa Departamental por la Defensa del Agua y el Territorio (Meddat) del Caquetá donde es delegada por las organizaciones sociales de San Vicente del Caguán y promueve la defensa de la amazonia. Su pueblo es Nasa pero también amazónico. “La amazonia ha influenciado nuestra medicina, la comida, tomamos yagé en la amazonia. La cultura es dinámica, esos debates los damos. Porque si no nos sentimos como parte del territorio no lo vamos a defender”, asegura.
En este momento de su vida no tiene una pareja y eso le facilita moverse. “Muchos hombres se atemorizan frente a una mujer que piensa y se alejan un poco. Me siento feliz por trabajar mientras tenga las energías para hacerlo. Espero seguir aportando desde lo que conozco y lo que puedo hacer (…) Seguiré en San Vicente del Caguán".
Luz Mery Panche Chocue sigue en resistencia pacífica a pesar de las amenazas. Tiene medidas de protección por parte del gobierno pero su mayor protección, la más efectiva, es la espiritual.
